OneDrive for Business questions

Is OneDrive the same as SharePoint?
No. OneDrive is personal storage for an individual's work files. SharePoint is shared storage for teams and departments. Most businesses use both: OneDrive for personal files and SharePoint for shared ones.
Does OneDrive back up my computer?
OneDrive can protect your Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders using Known Folder Move, so those files are stored in the cloud as well as on the computer. It is not a full computer image backup, and we explain what else you may need.
How much storage do we get?
Most Microsoft 365 business plans include at least 1 TB of OneDrive storage per user. We check your plan and can advise if you need more.
Why is my OneDrive not syncing?
Common causes are file names or paths that are too long, characters that are not allowed, a full storage quota or a sign-in problem. We diagnose the cause and fix it.
What happens to someone's OneDrive when they leave?
Their files stay available for a retention period that you set, so a manager can access or move them. We configure this so nothing is lost when people leave.
Can OneDrive replace our file server?
For many businesses, yes. Personal files move to OneDrive and shared files move to SharePoint. See our SharePoint migration page for how we move them.

Yes. OneDrive works on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android.
