Avaya 9620L Phone Handset
The Avaya 9620L IP phone is one of the more basic featured models in the large 9600 IP series lineup. It’s designed with everyday users in mind and keeps costs down by offering no Gigabit connectivity and a greyscale screen. For more information about the 9620L phone please read below.

In our opinion the Avaya 9620L IP handset (and 9620C) are far from the best buys in the Avaya 9600 IP series. The 9620L is cheaper than the 9620C because you get a greyscale screen, POE class 1 and no gigabit support. We can’t believe that it is even more expensive than the 9611G IP. All it provides users with for the price is the ability to choose from a range of phone colours – grey, red, yellow, blue, white and silver. The greyscale screen is not touch and there are the same 12 administrative buttons as the 9620C. Are a different colour handset and less functionality really worth more than the 9611G? Unless your company is into branding corporate colours everywhere the answer would have to be a resounding NO.
We suggest you look at the comparison chart at the bottom of the page to see what we’re talking about and work out what’s best for your own requirements.
That said, in isolation, the 9620L phone is still easy to use but yo1u’d be better paying the $100+ difference (RRP) and getting the gigabit integration and colour screen of the 9620C (assuming you want a different colour handset). Colour definitely makes things much easier to find, especially on smaller screens like the 9620L phone.
The Avaya 9620L handset incorporates wideband audio to deliver the best, most natural sounding IP telephony. You also have 4 soft keys below the display that are context sensitive. This simply means that when you are performing different phone functions, the on-screen display above each of the 4 soft keys will present the most logical options. For example, if you’re on a phone call it will present the options for join (conference), drop, hold, cancel. This really does make for a better user experience on all the Avaya 9600 IP series handsets with soft keys.
On the screen you can also toggle between different screens at a touch and the handset can display up to 12 staff/ phone lines or whatever else you want to program them for. There are 3 buttons to the right of the screen so you can see 3 items per screen and toggle across 4 different screen (12 in total).
In a typical gigabit environment rollout the Avaya 9611G IP and 9621G phones are normally the most popular. We only see the 9620L handsets going in where colour, not functionality, is the 1overriding consideration. The cheaper 9608 is still a smart choice for companies operating 10/100MB environments and for colour options try the 9620C. Whichever IP handsets you choose you can also mix and match from any of the Avaya IP or phone handsets in any of the budget or premium series.
Like all IP handsets, the Avaya 9620L phone allows you to plug it into any Ethernet port that is connected to the Avaya IP Office 500 v9.0 pbx and will automatically register. This makes staff moves very easy because you simply BYO handset and away you go. Your extension number and your all user preferences are also instantly reinstated. This also works for staff moving between office locations – they simply log on to an available IP phone.
